Take a look below at some of the feedback we’ve received from our happy customers.

I bought my first set of components from Graham at the Hifi Source back in Whakatane when I was 19 years old – 31 years ago. Thinking about it now I realise that I have bought most of my gear from Graham. Time flies and much has changed but one thing is still the same, Graham sells great products and always gives solid advice and I have come to trust his opinion. No matter your budget you will leave the store with something that is going to enhance your music and your life. My most recent purchase was for some bookshelf speakers for my shed and I am really enjoying my Monitor Audio Bronze speakers. Cheers mate!

I enjoy making incremental gains within a system, changing one piece at a time and absorbing each new item in its own time. And so my old Sennheiser extension cable gave way to the Slinkylinks (custom made/hand made headphone) cable ... The clarity of the music was apparent. Not too bright, not too sharp, just crystal clear. It is a mark of the cable's quality that it gets out of the way of the music, not imposing a distorted character to it. The cable looks fantastic. So good in fact it …

I purchased a pair of Dynaudio Emit 20’s from Eastern Hifi in October 2023 for a touch under $2k.

I’ve been listening to Polk Audio for 20 + years as I am a fan of Polk’s punch when I listen to rock and pop, and their versatility to play jazz, blues, classical and lighter musical styles well.

I’ve been listening to lighter music as I get older so bought the Emit 20’s. Being worth over twice the price of the Polk Rti A3’s I was expecting them to be a significant step up.

I hooked up the Emits to my 140W per channel Yamaha amp, my Blue Sound Node 2 and ran them in for 100 hours then had a listen and was instantly wowed. The top end was smooth, all there but very easy to listen to. The mids present and almost up front – I heard things before that I’ve never heard before on tracks I’ve listened to many times. The bass was full and rich, tighter and deeper with an almost chesty feel – I wasn’t expecting that!

I then played some old rock tracks, the realm of Polks, and the Emits didn’t disappoint.

I then did a side-by-side comparison with the Rti A3s. Most tracks the Emits won through their tighter deeper bass and clarity in the mid and high end, but still being smooth. The Emits have a soundstage and imaging that gives the music a real sense of depth, more engaging and a more enjoyable listening experience than the Polks can provide. The Polks were better at some older harder rock tracks with the classic V shape sound that suit a lot of 80’s rock, however there wasn’t a lot in it.

Then I had a wee think. The Emits RRP at about $1950 and the Polks RRP at $800. Are the Emits worth 2.4x the price of the Rtis? The Emits sound better, and quite a bit better on some tracks. But over twice as good?  I’m not sure. The Polks are still a ridiculously good speaker for the price. Maybe that’s just the law of diminishing returns in play.

Summary:

The Emit20s are a great speaker, enjoyable to listen to for hours, great presence, depth, soundstage and imaging with full rich tight bass, with great balance between the mids and treble.

Hi Jason, Thanks for the AudioQuest Evergreen cables. I can't believe how is sound better now. More clarity and balance. Probably the last piece of the puzzle for my system. Have a nice weekend

The trusty NAD turntable I bought in 1982, recently lost its trustworthy status so last week I bought a new turntable from Graham who not only impressed with his knowledge but turned out to be an affable man with a sense of humour; this I like.

I had a minor and embarrassing problem getting the turntable hooked up at home (don't ask) so phoned Eastern HiFi and this time spoke to Jason who was polite and helpful; problem solved.

Many thanks to both Graham and Jason.

Hi Graham, Just letting you know I found the sound from the little amp was AWESOME. It turned up on my doorstep at 7.30 the next morning, and I had it going by about 7.32!!! Tighter bass and much more detailed high end than both the Denon and Onkyo amps I had used. It was a real pleasure to talk to you on the phone and get some good honest advice. (and a good chat too.) Can you let me know if you have any second hand, or reasonably cheap tuners, as I will never use Trade Me again after the great deal and service from you, so will have to bug you when I need something.

Hi from Mounty County.. The staff and service from Eastern hifi are second to none. A cannot rate these people high enough... I recently purchased a Yamaha cd player from Eastern hifi. I had been looking for months in Australia. But have had no luck I emailed Eastern hifi, they responded that same day. We corresponded with each other for two days. Which included they sale of my item. Within a week of my first email. I was at home annoying my son with all of my 90's hip hop. I can't thank the team at Eastern hifi enough..

I never thought my next piece of HT kit would come out of Whakatane, but a great deal knows no boundaries. Cheers.

We recently purchased our second Bose system from David Cockburn at Eastern Hi Fi. We had specifically returned to Eastern due to our impressive first encounter with him as a Sales Representative approximately ten years ago when we purchased our original Bose system. The purpose of this letter is to commend him to you. David's polite, informative and attentive manner to our particular needs continues to highly impress us. Any question or detail which he is not immediately certain of, he takes the time and effort to find out for us, however his vast product knowledge is rarely put to the test! David genuinely appears to want the customer to obtain the system which will best suit their listening and lifestyle needs, rather than simply 'complete a sale'. His professionalism is of the highest standard and we continue to recommend him and your store to everyone we meet, as 'word of mouth' is such a valuable source of new business. We appreciate his invaluable assistance in our most recent Bose purchase, as well as the support of the Tauranga Office Manager, Bruce Devlin, as he provided a great deal of information to us, which helped in the formation of our final decision. Your Tauranga team are an asset to your entire company and we will continue to support them in our future purchases.

Man I’m pleased I bought that Sangean receiver. I’ve had it for two weeks and it lifts my spirits just looking at it. It is beautiful. The reception, clarity and volume are perfect. Mind you for a $190, 22cm by 14cm AM/FM receiver (only) with a 7cm speaker I expected some degree of satisfaction.

The quality of the case, the generosity of the features such as the two alarm choices, five preset station options, the perfectly delineated clock section within the rectangular digital display, have bought and brought me affection. I’ve had the company of a bedside radio since I was six, 68 years ago. I’ve had a Sangean Digitor, made for Dick Smith I believe, for at least 14 years as a bedside radio that turns on every morning at 6.59. (display light still works).

The PR-D4 replaces a $50 Panasonic with a 10cm speaker that did an excellent job for the bathroom, gardening, or holidaying but being analogue needed considered tuning. I would like those hand wringers who say we have become dupes of consumerism to have a PR-D4 beside their beds for two weeks then have the other for two weeks.

Good Morning Graham Thank you for your help last week with my decision to upgrade my home theatre amp, along with the price and the new sub after my one decided to give up and die. My wife and I are really impressed with the features and the sound the new system puts out from streaming Spotify to watching basic TV, Netflix or a Blu Ray, the bass from the sub is a lot better than my previous one.

Extremely Happy Customers

Thanks for your advice. It was Well worth paying that little bit extra compared to a chain store. Job well done. I will return!

Graham, it has been great to deal with you and your staff. The service has been first rate. Communication has been great and took time to know my requirements and made suggestions instead of just selling a product. Happy to deal with you again for my future hifi needs

Hi Graham, She's a big unit! The difference between the systems is like winter and summer. The clarity and pureness of the music .. yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, just makes you grin. Even on low low volume it doesn't lose any definition. I'm hanging for the weekend so I can see what it's capable of on high volume. The CD, amp combo bring out the full potential of my speakers, they dance. .. and I haven't even connected the slinky links yet. I have to make a rack because the Slinkylinks won't reach …
